Systems: Fire Alarm: Conventional

Conventional or “point wired” fire alarm systems are commonly used on medium sized applications. On a conventional system, zone circuits are routed through the protected space. Should any of the detectors reach an alarm condition, they act as a switch to give a signal to the panel. The panel will then indicate that there is a fire somewhere within that zone, but will not tell you precisely where (emergency responding personnel may need to search entire zone which could be several rooms, to determine where the device is reporting a fire) . The detectors used with conventional panels are often referred to as 'two stage detectors' in that they're either in a fire condition or they're not.
