Photoelectric Smoke Detectors:
Operates by sensing a change in the intensity of light received by a photo receptor. This detector can detect smoke particles from .050 - 1000 microns
Benefits:
-Fast response to overheated PVC wire insulation, smoldering type fire, and smoke of required obscuration level
-Can be installed in areas where low level products of combustion, nonflammable gases, or vapors are normally found Uses:
Telecommunications, Clean Rooms, Switch Gear, Museums, Records Storage, Vaults, MRI Equipment, Process Controllers, Electronic Files, Data Processing Libraries, Emergency Power Facilities, Laboratories, Libraries, Telephone Equipment Rooms |

Ionization Smoke Detectors:
Operates by sensing a change in the electrical properties of a chamber that employs a very small radioactive source. Combustion products from a fire enter the sensing chamber and impede the ionization current causing a voltage shift which results in an alarm signal.
Benefits:
-Fast response to fast-flaming type fires and where only small aerosols are present
-Units sensitivity is colorblind to light or dark smoke type
-Low current consumption
Uses:
Telecommunications, Clean Rooms, Switch Gear, Museums, Records Storage, Vaults, MRI Equipment, Process Controllers, Electronic Files, Data Processing Libraries, Emergency Power Facilities, Laboratories, Libraries, Telephone Equipment Rooms
